March 2017 | nokra GmbH has brought the Munich-based WILDDESIGN team on board for the new alpha.glass laser measuring system. The development of alpha.glass takes into account the constantly increasing requirements in the production of windscreens, such as the need for high-precision surfaces for head-up displays or complex coatings. Above all, the development team had in mind that the quality of the individual windshield depends heavily on the fast and precise feedback of the results in the production chain. The result fits perfectly with the current requirements of the industry - precision, interactivity, adaptability, speed and quality in every usage scenario.

Based on 15 years of experience in adapting to developments in the automotive industry, the strongest argument that nokra can offer the market with the new system is the high flexibility of alpha.glass. It can be used not only for the production of different types of windshields, but also for rear and side windows. It can also be used in all phases of the manufacturing process, from the bending surface to the final cut. The software integrated in the system supports any number of measuring points, so that almost any shape can be worked out and produced.

WILDDESIGN and alpha.glass

‍nokrachose our team to design a modern enclosure that reflects the company's core competencies while enhancing the usability of the product itself.

We have already proven our quality in the design of the previous alpha.ti 4.0, so nokra decided to commission us with the design of the new system. Our customer orientation and many years of experience in the development of state-of-the-art solutions in the technical and formal areas were decisive factors in bringing our team on board again this time.

What was our job?

WILDDESIGN's task was to integrate the existing technical system into a formally contemporary housing. As the technical structure was already predefined, we provided the functional units of the system with strong contrasts, which leads to better operability of the laser heads and the overall system. In addition, our aim was to simplify assembly, maintenance and service.

The complete housing was created step by step by designing various functional units from powder-coated sheet metal. The aim was to create a modern housing that is easy to operate and install, but also takes up the formal parameters of existing nokra products, such as the alpha.ti 4.0.

The entire process began with an on-site briefing and the collection of the relevant data and dimensions. The subsequent phase consisted of concrete design ideas and proposals developed in CAD, which were then coordinated with nokra's management and development team. The most important phase consisted of the iterative coordination and processing of the ideas developed, the testing of suitable materials and the construction of parts that fit into the overall system.

Project start in May, finished product brochure in October. This is what effective and successful collaboration looks like.

alpha.glass fills a gap in the market. Together with nokra, we have succeeded in closing this gap. With a measuring system that not only meets the quality requirements of high-end measurement technology in the automotive industry, but also the constantly growing demands placed on it.

alpha.glass was presented at glasstec at the end of October 2018 and attracted a great deal of attention and very positive feedback.

Testimonial

Günter Lauven finds the history of alpha.glass and the role of WILDDESIGN as a partner in it very positive. He found the hands-on mentality and effective communication that WILDDESIGN offers its customers particularly valuable during our collaboration. "Very direct and fast communication between WILDDESIGN and our engineers was one of the most important factors that made our tight schedule possible. With the help of intensive coordination and detailed technical know-how from WILDDESIGN, we were able to develop the best solutions and use them to achieve the optimum quality". We at WILDDESIGN are particularly proud of the fact that we were able to meet nokra's expectations without deviating from the jointly set goals. We achieved this both in the development and implementation phase, as well as in terms of the costs planned for the development of the system. With nokra, we had a partner that offered excellent communication and teamwork, which led to an incredibly fast development of a high-quality product. The consistently positive feedback and great interest in alpha.glass at glasstec 2018 once again confirmed the overall impression of the project. We are proud to have been involved in the development of this high-end product.
