Product design requirements in medical technology
Product development in medical technology is subject to its own laws. As specialists in medical technology and healthcare, we have the knowledge and experience that the medical design development process requires in order to design and develop products with a view to optimum handling and safe use. For example, a device used in a hospital environment has to meet increasingly stringent hygiene requirements. Surfaces without corners and edges that are easy to clean and sterilizable parts and materials that come into contact with the patient are among the main requirements that increase both compliance and convenience.
Balance between pure function, operating logic and aesthetic design
To ensure this balance, we work closely with practitioners, nursing staff and doctors. Wherever possible, we take a close look at the working environment and processes. The user must not have to think long and hard about which button to press - it must be intuitively recognizable. In order to ensure optimum operation, usability must be considered throughout the entire development process. This approach is also required by law for approval as a medical device and is regulated in DIN EN 62366. This shows how important the topic has become for current developments, but also that it is not yet a natural part of product development for many manufacturers.

It is precisely these legislative guidelines (MPG, FDA or SFDA) and the corresponding mindset of the medical technology development teams that make the difference between product design and medical product design.
