Munich, here we come!

Just in time for the company's 25th anniversary, WILDDESIGN is giving itself a present: a new office in the design boomtown of Munich. Together with our cooperation and network partners, the location in the southern district of Obersendling will be developed from the 4th quarter of 2015. Read the interview with Markus Wild about the background and prospects...

Medical Innovation Hub Munich

There are still just a few empty offices in Machtlfinger Straße that characterize the new workplace of the design agency in the south. Within the next 12 months, a nucleus for new products is to be created here under the working title Medical Innovation Hub Munich, focusing on the topics of medical and laboratory technologycare, ambient assisted living, telemedicine, wellness, nutrition and healthy living.

The aim here is to create truly innovative medical products.

Fit for purpose. Aesthetic. Technologically superior. Safe. WILDDESIGN & BYTEC combine their strengths and experience at the Munich location to bring together the necessary interdisciplinary know-how for this task. Our cooperation partner BYTEC Medical Technology has stood for development expertise, quality management, CE/FDA know-how and contract manufacturing in accordance with DIN EN 13485 for more than 20 years. WILDDESIGN has stood for trend- and market-oriented design, systematic processes and usability engineering since 1990. Together more than 45 years of development experience in medical technology.

Why Munich in particular?

The medical technology sector in the German-speaking region is concentrated in various southern clusters, Mannheim, Tübingen, Tuttlingen, Erlangen, Munich, Austria, Zurich, Basel, cities and regions in which companies of all sizes, from start-ups to large corporations, have settled. Global competition, with a particular focus on China, is forcing European medical technology companies to develop and launch innovative medical products with worldwide approval ever more quickly and cost-effectively. The majority of companies are dependent on help from OEM companies, as it is very risky to build up and maintain their own capacities. Proximity to the customer plays a major role here.

After weighing up various options and regions, Munich was chosen. The German design scene has been concentrated here for several years and well-known international design agencies in particular have settled here. There are numerous medical research facilities and excellent educational institutions in the Munich area, especially in the design sector.

What added value can WILDDESIGN offer?

Our customers need an external design partner in their vicinity who masters the high complexity of developing medical products with global validity and drives them forward in an agile cooperation with the customer. Time-to-market and design-to-cost are two requirements that are repeatedly voiced and must be met. Due to the ever-increasing regulatory requirements of the CE and FDA, the external design partner must be competent in all aspects, including hardware and software development as well as market-compliant, attractive design with high functionality and usability. The user-centered design development strategy, which focuses on customer benefit in all disciplines involved, is becoming increasingly popular.

At WILDDESIGN, we are constantly looking for new ways to better fulfill customer needs, to be closer to the customer, to interact more with them, but at the same time to get more involved in generating ideas in order to develop better, superior solutions. The design office in Munich is the ideal complement to our experienced medical team in Gelsenkirchen.

What is the roadmap?

By the end of 2015, we had set up the office and the first project work had begun. At Medica/Compamed from November 16 to 19, 2015 in Düsseldorf, we presented our Munich location to the public for the first time: in addition to our traditional Compamed stand in Hall 8a/H13, we were guests at the joint stand of the Forum Medtec & Pharma (Hall 3/E92) and were pleased to welcome many visitors and exchange ideas.

The team in Munich will only really grow in 2016, as it takes time and patience to bring together the right personalities and skills. This is not the first time we have done this: 10 years ago, we were able to develop a location from scratch with our office in Shanghai and write a success story. The close connection to our teams in Shanghai and Gelsenkirchen is therefore also one of the most important topics for the development of our interdisciplinary and multicultural Munich team.

We are looking forward to a new, great challenge and to welcoming you to Munich soon. Click here to visit our new Munich Product Design Office.
