How does a design project work?

‍Notwo design tasks are the same. And so every design project is indeed unique, but there are still some similarities. We usually work in stages or phases and classically there are these three phases:
1. Analysis and concept
2. Design development
3. Realization

It makes sense to clearly separate these three phases and conclude them with milestones. The direction is determined in the analysis and conception phase. For this reason, several directions (usually 3) are normally presented at the end of the conception phase. A selection must then be made so that the intensive, detail-oriented design development can be carried out with reasonable effort. Once the design development has been successfully completed, the development results are transferred to realization, e.g. through mechanical construction in the direction of series production, or a final artwork for a packaging layout.

Time frame and dates

‍Eachindividual phase requires a fixed time frame and is integrated into the project plan with fixed deadlines. It is important to bear in mind that the review and decision-making processes between the individual phases also have a certain duration; the more decision-makers are involved, the longer the process. Wherever possible, we schedule the individual phases "sportily", which means that we like to put ourselves under noticeable time pressure. Too much time is just as unhelpful for the design work as excessive time pressure.

Cooperation in the project

‍Thedesign team communicates the progress of the project at regular intervals and the customer can also be provided with access and transparency in project management on request. Intensive monitoring of the project by the customer is expressly desired and makes a decisive contribution to improving the quality of the results. It should be noted that the project also generates work on the customer side. The design team needs a fixed contact person at the customer and a direct route to the decision-maker or decision-making body. Even if the management is not always as deeply involved as Steve Jobs was at Apple, design remains a management task and therefore a matter for the management.

Either way, don't be afraid to ask us. It all starts with the first contact - and it's best to do it now!
