Seven Days Pill Box | Design Sprint 11
Product design student Haoxiang Wang has designed the "Seven Days Pill Box". He focuses on the redesign of existing products and optimizes the handling of a medicine box for the older generation with his new design.
Our population is ageing faster and faster and as we get older, we can no longer manage without medicine - many of us have to take it every day and carry it with us. More than half of 60-year-olds in Germany take medication every day.
Older people have much more free time than younger people. 40 percent of senior citizens go for walks. It is therefore an important issue for them to carry their medication with them when they are out and about. The design of the medication box makes it easier for older people to have the box with them, take their medicine and thus facilitate activities outside the home.
User research and competitor analysis have shown that many existing pill boxes have major ergonomic problems, making it difficult for seniors to open or close them. In addition, the design of the medication box must take into account sealing performance and food safety. In terms of size, the box must not be too big or too small - it must be easy to transport and have room for enough medication. Drafts, models, 3D prints and research on materials helped with the specific design of the medicine box.
Product details:
When researching materials, PP material proved to be suitable for the body of the box. The lid is made of silicone, which is safe in contact with food but also seals well. There are a total of three compartments in the box, for morning, midday and evening. The inside is adapted to the needs of senior citizens. The design of the ergonomic opening makes it easier for older people to open the box. In addition, the inside is slanted to make it easier to remove pills or tablets.
Prototype:
The product consists of a large box and seven small boxes for the seven days of the week, with different colors for each day. At the beginning of each week, the user can fill the box with medication and remove the respective box for each day. Each small box has three compartments, marked for morning, midday and evening, into which the user can fill different medications.
