Experience
WILDDESIGN - Servus from the Medical Design Hub Munich
At the end of 2015, we decided to celebrate 25 years of successful work by opening the Medical Design Hub in Munich. Together with our partner BYTEC Medizintechnik and their decades of experience in product development, quality management and CE/FDA know-how. Together, we wanted to create a medical design hub in the heart of Munich that would make a name for itself in the field of medical technology innovation and design (read our blog post at the time). The Munich Office was presented at the Medica/Compamed trade fair in November 2015 and has developed well since then.
Driven and inspired by the collaboration in our network and the influence of the strongest international design companies with offices in Munich, our team there has the opportunity to constantly improve and grow. An ideal place to keep up with the latest developments in the field of medical technology. By networking with the rapidly developing AI and ADM technologies and the large Munich medical and biotech scene, we and our clients are able to benefit from the developments of these start-ups.
The choice of Munich as a location turned out to be the right one and the well harmonizing team of WILDDESIGN Munich has developed very well.
And yet, we are only just getting started - development continues.
Targets set and successes achieved
The core of WILDDESIGN's work is to develop products that are competitive on the global market. Our work must meet the requirements of time-to-market and design-to-cost. In addition to developing highly functional products, we place at least as much emphasis on designing user-friendly products. The team in Munich is just as committed to these values as the WILDDESIGN branches in Gelsenkirchen and Shanghai.
WILDDESIGN Munich is now not only an established name in the Munich design scene in the field of medical design, but is also increasingly expanding its portfolio with projects in the fields of biotech, laboratory and dental technology. The main focus is on usability, mixed reality and ADM.
Since 2016, we have developed eight products and helped bring them to market very successfully:
In 2017, we developed special in-ear wearables for measuring important bodily functions and a brain stimulation device. In 2018, we developed a ceramic 3D printer for Lithoz, a tinnitus therapy device for Cleanhearing, a glass thickness gauge for Nokra, the proFIRE protein purifier for Dynamic Biosensors and a liposuction device for Möller Medical. The Point of Care MRSA rapid tester for SpinDiag was launched at the end of 2018 and went into series production in 2019.
This will be followed in the course of 2019 by the market launch of an endoscopy control device, an ankle brace and a bioanalysis system.
We are currently working on another rapid tester for the laboratory sector, as well as an eye laser, a syringe adapter for medication, a steel thickness gauge and several other exciting projects.
The structure and the team
WILDDESIGN brings together a large number of creatives with different backgrounds under one roof. Our team is international and works in a flat management hierarchy. Team spirit is one of the characteristics we value most, along with the personality of the team members. The team thrives on personalities who support and further develop the open, creative climate at WILDDESIGN. A climate of creativity, development, improvement and open communication with customers and colleagues.
The Munich team currently consists of seven employees, all of whom complement each other with their personal skills and professional orientation. We are all qualified industrial designers and each have at least two years of professional experience in medical design. From 20 years of experience in classic industrial design, design detailing and visualization techniques, to 2D and 3D modeling, mock ups and housing development, as well as classic media design, UX design and GUI design - we have everything on board in our small but fine team that is needed to design outstanding products.
There are always at least two interns around us at any one time. Our team offers young people the opportunity to gain valuable experience in our dynamic environment, which they will need for their future work in this professional field. Our interns come from all over the world and with very different skills and interests. We have had students from Italy, Spain, Canada, Sweden and Austria. They have all brought their own experiences and cultural backgrounds to make our job even more interesting and inspiring. However, they all have one thing in common - an education in industrial, UX or communication design.
We are particularly proud that we can offer our interns the opportunity to work on their own forward-looking projects, which they follow from start to finish during their internship. This gives them the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge and skills in a professional setting, to refine these skills and to apply the WILDDESIGN design process they have learned to their own project.
Prospects
We are looking forward to the new projects that are currently being worked on or planned and which we will tackle with verve. We are always on the lookout for people who identify with our core values, who live for design and who appreciate the advantages of a small, dynamic team with flat hierarchies.
