Magnosco
Magnos - An AI-supported digital dermoscopy system

By 2040, researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) predict an increase in annual skin melanoma diagnoses of more than 50 percent. As with many types of cancer, early detection significantly improves the chances of a cure. However, until now, preliminary examinations have mostly been carried out analogously - using magnifying glasses, light and biopsies. This is exactly where the innovative Magnos system comes in: It uses a state-of-the-art imaging device and an interactive, comprehensible AI for early detection to avoid unnecessary biopsies and make skin cancer diagnostics more precise. The AI remains comprehensible and interactive, allowing dermatologists to actively contribute their expertise and promoting patient safety.

A seamless transition to an inspiring user experience
The Magnos system sets new standards in user-friendliness, efficiency and quality. From the very beginning, the focus was on developing high-quality hardware and software that optimally supports dermatologists through aesthetics, ease of use and seamless integration into existing work processes. Even in the early development phases, interaction concepts were intensively tested and iterated to ensure that the system fits perfectly into existing diagnostic workflows. This preliminary work resulted in a robust GUI concept that did not require any fundamental changes even in the advanced development process - a decisive advantage for efficient project implementation.

Reduce complex content to shape it into an intuitive user experience
The Magnos system makes complex technologies easily accessible. With a clear focus on the most important functions, it ensures that the system can be grasped quickly and intuitively. The user interface of the AI-supported analysis in particular focuses on reduction: only the information that is really necessary is made available in a clear manner so that interaction remains comprehensible and effortless.

Transferring the analog dermatoscope to the digital world
The design team focused on understanding the dermatologists' existing workflow and creating a seamless connection between the handheld device and the iPad app. All functions are ergonomically and intuitively accessible so that the transition between digital dermatoscope and app is smooth. The variable design of the display allows functions to be displayed contextually and the entire analysis process remains comprehensible.
Close cooperation for a successful product
The close and trusting collaboration between the design and development team laid the foundation for the project's success. Thanks to the partnership-based working method and clear goal orientation, a solution was created that is not only technically and aesthetically convincing, but also strengthens user confidence. This successful cooperation is seen by both teams as a promising foundation for future projects.
