Dynamic high-contrast design for laboratory analytics

Dynamic high-contrast design for laboratory analytics

The Equisse 400 is a fully automated laboratory analysis system for in-vitro diagnostics that needed to stand out from the competition not only functionally, but also visually - for this task, the Cormay Group from Poland brought the WILDDESIGN team on board. Their dynamic design concept reflects the high working speed of the Equisse 400. In addition, the high-contrast design with its clear, linear design language makes it easier for the user to find his way around and quickly identify the relevant work areas.

Clearly structured design language

With its unique features - such as continuous sample loading or pre-launch validation - the Equisse 400 stands out from the crowd of comparable products. With a new design, the originally extremely large device was to appear less bulky and at the same time reveal the high performance of the Equisse. The WILDDESIGN team therefore decided on a shape whose flowing lines are reminiscent of a yacht. All lines are laid out parallel to each other at a 45-degree angle, which not only gives the device dynamism, but also an orderly structure at the same time.

The user also gains orientation through the high-contrast design: user and process areas have been separated from one another, thus ensuring safer, simpler operation and more efficient work. All surfaces relevant to the user are black and have a smooth surface that is easy to wipe clean. The white housing parts contain the technical components and the internal sample transport system. A camera system takes over the identification of sample containers and helps to exclude mix-ups. The housing contour is interrupted by a gray base, which makes the instrument appear flatter and lighter. In addition, the recess between the base and the instrument provides space for a concealed cooling system.

Sophisticated GUI for best performance

The evaluations of the laboratory results can be read on a monitor whose GUI was also developed by WILDDESIGN. Graphic illustrations make it easier for the user to find his way around - for example, by showing a top view of the sample wheel or a representation of the entire device in which the relevant areas are highlighted. In the sense of a holistic design, the concise 45-degree slopes are also found in the GUI's control bars.

Excellent cooperation

Within this project, WILDDESIGN and the WILD Group from Austria collaborated for the first time. While WILDDESIGN developed the housing design, the employees of the WILD Group dealt with the mechanics and the construction. The fact that the two companies, together with Cormay, succeeded in making an innovative leap forward in development in the process is also confirmed by the awards of the Carinthian Innovation and Research Prize 2014 and the Austrian State Prize 2015. The jury is convinced that, compared to commercially available devices, the Equisse sets new standards in terms of user-friendliness, convenience and speed.

About the customer
