Preoperative intraocular lens measurement by RALV
Clear vision and full participation in life. Presbyopia affects millions of people and can significantly restrict everyday life. Being able to see clearly again therefore fundamentally changes the lives of those affected. Surgically inserted intraocular lenses (IOLs) offer a permanent solution that goes far beyond conventional vision correction. With RALV (Real Artificial Lens Vision), patients now have the opportunity to test and personally evaluate different types of lenses before surgery. This innovative method makes it possible to precisely select the optimal IOL. This not only maximizes patient satisfaction, but also significantly reduces the risk of reoperations. With our expertise in the design of eye surgery systems, we have made a decisive contribution to making the operation of the system even more intuitive, optimizing the interaction process and improving patients' quality of life in the long term.
Goal
- Developmentof an examination unit for optimal IOL selection for patients and thus avoidance of follow-up operations.
- Focus: design, functionality, ergonomics and intuitive handling.
- Responsibilities at WILDDESIGN:
- Design vision and product conception
- Detail design and prototyping
- Ergonomics and function
Procedure
- Close cooperation with the Dezimal team

Precise and clear
The RALV project pursued the ambitious goal of developing an innovative examination unit that enables patients to precisely predict their future vision with an intraocular lens. This new development, based on high-performance technology, sets new standards in ophthalmology and deserves the highest recognition. The principles of precision, clarity and minimalism were at the heart of the design concept for the inspiration and subsequent design of the system. These values have been embedded in every aspect of the product to ensure that the result is not only technologically advanced, but also intuitive and trustworthy for the user.
Confidence through design language and ergonomics
In addition to technological innovation, a particular focus was placed on the human aspect of the project. The RALV system was developed in such a way that it offers patients the opportunity to experience their future visual performance with the intraocular lenses in a realistic way, thereby removing much of the uncertainty before the sensitive procedure. As no ophthalmologist can predict with absolute certainty what vision will look like with an artificial lens, only the patient themselves can judge this. For this reason, it was crucial that the design language of the device not only inspires confidence in the technology, but also provides a positive and reassuring experience during use.
During the design process, great emphasis was placed on optimal usability to ensure that patients feel confident and safe when using the device. By using early low-fidelity prototypes, we were able to thoroughly test ergonomic adjustments, component proportions, device orientation and subjective perception. The goal was to create an intuitive and inviting user experience characterized by clear, trustworthy design features and user-friendly ergonomics. This ensured that the final product was not only functional, but also comfortable and confidence-inspiring.
Innovation through cooperation
The close collaboration with the experts from the Dezimal team was a decisive factor in the success of the RALV project. Through an intensive, iterative design process, which included numerous sketches, mock-ups and prototypes, the product architecture and design language were continuously developed. Both the feedback from the target group and the technical requirements were taken into account. This iterative approach resulted in a minimalist yet expressive device that is safe and intuitive for both patients and doctors to use.
The first public presentations of the device have already aroused great interest in its application, which confirms the success of the development process. DEZIMAL GmbH, a spin-off of the Austrian Center for Medical Innovation and Technology (ACMIT), played a central role in the development of this project. Together with 1stQ Deutschland GmbH, an internationally renowned manufacturer of intraocular lenses, ACMIT developed the optical system, which was finally brought to production maturity by DEZIMAL GmbH. This collaboration between leading experts has made it possible to create a technological innovation that has the potential to change ophthalmology in the long term.

- Iterative design process
"With WILDDESIGN, we were able to create a groundbreaking simulation unit that is not only functional, but also aesthetic and user-friendly. The precise pre-selection of intraocular lenses before surgery is a significant advantage for the patient, who literally gets a realistic view of their future vision. This avoids follow-up operations for IOL fitting and the customer is spared renewed stress, increased risk and further costs.
Thanks to intensive preliminary work together with WILDDESIGN, we have created a unique SYSTEM in the field of intraocular lens fitting in ophthalmology."
